Ornament Challenge 2011: Easy Holiday Banner Ornaments and Garland

Christmas· Kids Stuff· Seasonal

Make festive garland or individual paper ornaments featuring mini art pieces you and your child create. You don’t have to get fancy to add holiday cheer to your decor. Pick 2-3 colors of card stock, add in coordinating glitter glue and you are on your way to fabulous holiday decorating!

Materials used in this project:

  • Crayola® Glitter Glue
  • Wood Spring Clothes Pins
  • Darice® Premium Canvas Texture Cardstock
  • 3/16 inch White Curling Ribbon

Cut cardstock into 2-3″ squares. Cut a coordinating set of smaller squares and glue to the larger pieces. Create mini drawings using the glitter glue on each square. After is all dries, hang it up using mini clothes pins. You can mix and match the art and colors however you like. The glitter glue adds the extra holiday sparkle and your kids will love creating this fun project!

I created a fun holiday banner with 16 of these mini art squares by hanging a piece of curly ribbon and then pinning each art piece to the ribbon using the mini clothes pins. This could be hung on the Christmas tree as garland as well. You can also hang each piece individually to create unique ornaments on your tree with the ribbon, the clothes pins or both. This is also a great project for classrooms allowing each child to make multiple pieces in the time allotted.
