DIY Witch Hat: A “Witch-y” Headband

Hair & Accessories· Halloween· Kids Stuff

Witches are a staple in Halloween-y costumes. I was a witch last year. I intend on being one this year, too.

It’s a costume that can build on things I already have on my wardrobe. Long black skirt? Check. Black shirt? Check. Broom? Got it.

Witchy attitude? Pffft…. if need be, I can bring it.

But the hat is something you need to complete the outfit! And for just a few bucks and five minutes of your time, you can whip up this adorable little DIY witch hat headband. And a black cat can join you, if you want to be sure the witch’s familiar is by your side.

DIY-witch-hat-headband-Crafts-UnleashedSupplies needed to make your own DIY witch hat headband:

supply-list

  • Black Ribbon-wrapped Beadband
  • Black Witches’ Hat
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • 5/8 in Grosgrain Orange Ribbon
  • 3/8 in Satin Black Ribbon
  • Brooch Pendant
  • Miniature Black Cat

I couldn’t help myself with this little black cat. He had to be on the DIY witch hat.

A witch is not a witch without her familiar.

DIY-witch-hat-headband-Crafts-Unleashed-1I layered the two ribbons and hot glued in between each loop. I continued this until I had created a full “bow” of ribbons. I made sure to leave a tail of approximately 8-10 inches of ribbon.

DIY-witch-hat-headband-Crafts-Unleashed-2Using the hot glue, I affixed the bow to the side of the hat. Then, I added the witches’ bling. A brooch was glued to the center of the bow.

Who says witches can’t be fancy?

I wanted a little sparkle on my hat.

DIY-witch-hat-headband-Crafts-Unleashed-3…. and my friend was glued to the hat as well. He has to come with me as I walk the trick or treaters around the neighbourhood!

DIY-witch-hat-headband-Crafts-Unleashed-4The final step was to glue the hat to the headband. After letting the hat sit for about 10 minutes, it was ready!

Lila was quick to don the DIY witch hat headband. She wore it while she played.

DIY-witch-hat-headband-Crafts-Unleashed-1Because it’s a headband too, there’s no reason why this hat can’t be worn as part of an outfit.

Why not add some witchy-goodness to your day?
