Going out to eat with the kids can be quite the daunting adventure. Sure, the restaurant may have one of those kid’s menu/coloring pages but that will entertain them for all of, what? Five minutes? Here’s another attention-grabbing DIY kids activity you can add to your arsenal. They’ll be happy playing in their own little world and you’ll be happy that you get to eat an entire meal in one sitting!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY kids travel playset:
- Unfinished Wood Cigar Box
- Craft Paint
- Cardstock
- Zig Squeeze & Roll Jumbo Glue
- Toob Figurines
- Purse Handle Frame & Clamps
- Diorama Trees
- Baker’s Twine
- Mini Nails
Step 1. Assemble your supplies and if you want, paint the front of the cigar box. I went with a dinosaur theme, but with so many different Toob categories, the possibilities are endless. You could make a city box for the Car Toob set or a country setting for the Farm Toob figurines.
Step 2. Depending on if you want your travel set to stay open or not, tie a piece of baker’s twine around two of the mini nails and lightly hammer into place in one of the corners. Trim with wire cutters if the nail sticks out at all.
Step 3. Poke a hole in the base of the box with a sharp instrument (I used an awl) to create tree holes. I had to trim the end of my trees slightly as well.
Step. 4 Cut out the background shapes with cardstock and glue in place. If your kids are old enough, they’ll love doing this part!
Step 5: Use the clamps to attach the purse handle. Notice how I had to place them horizontal. The handle doesn’t fold down anymore, but not such a big deal with the kids.
Step 6: The Toob figurines and trees fit perfectly in your DIY kids box!
Now you’re perfectly ready for a night with the kids at a restaurant! Hope you and your kids enjoy this fun DIY kids travel playset project!
