Before we know it, another school year will be in full swing. I wanted to make a fun, portable organizer that my daughter will actually put to use. My goal this year is to keep her on task! We had too many “this report/project/assignment is due TOMORROW!!!” moments last year. Enter this fun DIY clipboard organizer.
This project utilizes a standard clipboard and a few additions. My daughter already loves it, and it is hanging right inside her bedroom door ready to corral important papers! This would also be a fun addition to an office space.
Supplies needed to make your own organizational DIY clipboard:
- Standard Clipboard.
- LockerLookz Magnetic Locker Bin (these come in several colors and styles).
- 4×4″ Cork Squares.
- Americana Black Chalkboard Paint.
- Gorilla Glue (or any other strong adhesive).
- Washi or Painter’s Tape.
Tape off the top and bottom portion of the clipboard. Honestly, this step is simply because I was too lazy to want to paint around the metal clip of the clipboard. 🙂
Paint the middle section of the clipboard with Chalkboard paint. You will need to apply two coats. One coat painted horizontally and allowed to dry. Then the next coat painted vertically and allowed to dry.
Using Gorilla Glue, adhere two cork squares to your DIY clipboard. The squares will be stacked on top of each other to create enough thickness for the push pins.
I used a heavy object to weigh the cork pieces down during the adhesive drying time.
The LockerLookz bin came with three securely attached magnets. I applied Gorilla glue directly to the magnetic areas. I used a heavy object to keep the bin in place while the adhesive bonded to the DIY clipboard.
I let everything dry overnight, and then handed the DIY clipboard organizer off to my daughter. She was quite eager to get to organizing!
I hope her enthusiasm carries her (us!) through this next school year!
