School season is almost upon us and before you know it we’ll be elbow deep in number 2 pencils, wide-ruled paper, and after school snacks. Of course, there’ll also be new school books that will need to be covered so I’m here to show you three super easy DIY book cover ideas that are fun to make!
3 DIY Book Cover Ideas:
Basic Cover.
Before we can start decorating, we need to go over the steps to making a basic book cover. You can use any paper roll as the base to making a cover, including paper grocery bags. Begin by folding a panel of paper to the width of the book you would like to cover.
Next, fold the edges over the book cover ends and crease.
Insert each book end into the folded pocket to finish cover. Now it’s time to decorate!
#1 All That Glitters DIY Book Cover.
Choose from Consumer Craft’s wide selection of duct tape to decorate the outside of your cover. I love the way the Gold Duct Tape and Teal Duct Tape look together! Beginning in the corner, add a diagonal section of tape to secure the flap and overlap to the back.
Continue until you’re happy with the look!
Do you have a child who is graduating this year and already counting down the days? Help them keep track of how many days of school are left with this handy countdown cover. Use the basic book cover method I showed you above and then just add black vinyl letters (either pre-cut or created with a Silhouette Cutting Machine) and a chalkboard vinyl rectangle.
Use a fine tip chalk marker to count down the days to graduation!
#3 I Love Washi! DIY Book Cover.
Declare your obsession with washi tape by decorating a plain cover with the crafter’s tape everyone knows and loves!
Use the basic method to cover your book and then add plenty of washi tape to customize it. With so many different washi tape options from Consumer Crafts, your options are endless!
I hope you enjoyed these super easy DIY book cover ideas! They’re such basic tutorials that you’ll be able to adjust and customize to your taste. Hope you have a great school year!

If she’s not cooking, sewing, gluing or making, she would probably go crazy. Join her on her crafty adventure at Tried & True.
Such wonderful ideas and cuteness on top of it. You make it look so easy. Think she might like to decorate her book covers.
I will ask grand daughter if she’d like to cover her books. Would be fun project to do with her. She’s a sophomore this year. Here (Grand Junction, CO) they have middle school, grades 8-9 so she’ll finally be in high school. Her sister graduated in May, will be off to college middle of August. She has great scholarship to Dominican college in San Rafael, CA. One of our grandsons has scholarship to college in Lexington, Ky where he’ll be sophomore working for chemical engineering degree. All the grand kids are growing up much too quickly so like to do things with any I can get to come over when they have any time. Happy weekend Vanessa
