Can we talk about hot dogs for a minute? I think they are one of the staples of summer! Every once in a while I look past the sodium and nitrates and indulge. There is nothing better than a hot dog on a hot summer night, straight from the campfire or grill. You do have to get the good hot dogs though- the expensive kind! I am not a mustard fan, FYI- but that is a subject for another day. To keep with the spirit of the hot dog- I created these whimsical hot dog craft earrings!
Listen up, you guys. I have worn these dogs to two functions and people love them! They are just quirky enough that people notice, comment, and dare I say these hot dog craft earrings have made me some new friends. These earrings could be the answer to world peace! A pretty great bargain for under three bucks.
Here is what I used to make these earrings, and I am including an idea on how to gift these dogs! Make someone’s day! Or at least barbecue.
Supplies needed to make your own hot dog craft earrings:
- Timeless Minis Miniature Hot Dogs
- 5mm Screw Eye Bails
- 1 inch Fish Hook Earring Wires
- Eurotool Super New Glue
- Corrugated Cardboard Gift Tags (optional)
These hot dogs come two to a package like they were meant to be earrings.
And check out the detail! It’s mustard, I know- but still super adorable.
Apply a small amount of super glue on the tip of the silver screw eye. The screw eye will twist into the hot dog, right down the bun behind the hot dog.
Twist until the screw eye is tight. Let the glue dry.
You can add another drop of glue to the base of the screw eye next to the bun to really make sure it stays in there good.
Bend the loop end of a fish hook earring open using pliers. Bend the loop sideways so it will be easy to close again.
Attach the screw hook to the bent fish hook- making sure that the hot dog is facing forward so it will hang from your earring correctly.
Using pliers, bend the fish hook loop shut again.
Now your hot dog craft earrings are ready to become a part of your summer celebrations!
If you are looking for a fun gift idea, or barbecue hostess gift, might I suggest these rustic corrugated tags!
Simply punch a couple of small holes in a tag:
Add the hot dog craft earrings to the holes, and add your own customized sentiment.
I feel like there are lots of ways you can go with the sentiments here.
A fun accessory tradition that I am sure will be a huge hit at your next summer gathering. While you’re in the crafting mood, this DIY mason jar utensil caddy is the perfect addition to a summer party.

How cute! This would be a whimsical gift for a little girl! Have to agree with you. Summer just wouldn’t be the same without hot dogs.
