Since having our kiddos, my husband and I have made a big effort to have some kind of professional portraits taken each year. Last year didn’t quite work out for us so I’m on a mission to make this year’s photo session really count. My daughter and I really love the floral crown trend right now and she really wants to wear one for pictures, but I couldn’t find one that coordinates with what we’ll be wearing. As it turns out, creating your own DIY floral crown is pretty easy and I’m sharing how you can make your own today!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY floral crown:
- 3 Large Hydrangea Stems (I used 2 Peach and 1 Fresh Cream)
- 32 Gauge Cloth-Covered Wire
- Green Floral Tape
- Scissors
Step One. Begin by taking two of the pieces of the cloth-covered wire and overlap them about four inches. Twist them around each other to make one large piece of wire.
Step Two. Wrap the long length of wire around the head that you’re making the crown for to get the appropriate length. Twist the wire to mark where the connection needs to be.
Step Three. Fold the wire at the connection point and twist the excess around to form a secure connection. When this part is complete, you’ll have the base for the DIY floral crown.
Step Four. Using the scissors, trim the individual stems off of each floral stem.
Step Five. Determine where you’d like the flowers to start on the crown. I chose to start mine just past the center of the crown. Hold the stem to the wire base and wrap it firmly with the floral tape.
Step Six. Continue adding more stems and wrapping with the floral tape in one continuous motion. I wrapped each stem twice before moving on to the next one to ensure that it was secure against the wire base.
Step Seven. Finish adding and wrapping the rest of the floral stems with the floral tape.
My daughter and I are thrilled with how the DIY floral crown turned out and its going to be perfect for our family pictures!
