Bottle cap necklaces are easy to make and customize for any theme, holiday, favorite team, or color choice. This sequin DIY bottle cap necklace has a patriotic theme that’s perfect for the fourth of July!
My daughter and I enjoy making bottle cap necklaces together. They’re so quick and easy that we often make them for her cousins and friends on special occasions. With the fourth of July coming up, I thought it would be fun to make a patriotic themed necklace for her to wear to the parade.
Supplies needed to make your own sequin DIY bottle cap necklace:
- Bottle Caps with Loops
- Star Sequins
- Red Sequins
- Small Blue Sequins
- Dimensional Magic
- Mod Podge
- 1 inch White Paper Circle
- Brush
- Necklace Chain
Step one: Apply a layer of Mod Podge to adhere the paper circle to the bottle cap. Add another layer of Mod Podge on top.
Step two: Begin filling the bottle cap with sequins, using the Mod Podge as an adhesive. Use a toothpick to apply the Mod Podge to the back of the sequins when adding a second layer. Allow the Mod Podge to dry.
Step three: Fill the bottle cap with dimensional magic.
Tip: the picture below is from my first attempt – I suggest using a thin layer barely enough to cover the sequins. When I used a thick layer, the edges were cloudy even after drying overnight. You can also make this necklace with epoxy domes which are super easy to use and means you can make this necklace in under 15 minutes!
Step four: Allow the dimensional magic to dry for at least 5 hours, preferably overnight. Then, use the loop on the back of the bottle cap to string a necklace chain through.
Now you have a fun patriotic DIY bottle cap necklace for the fourth of July!

I have been collecting bottle caps for awhile now, to make a wind chime. Do you have any projects using real bottle caps? The best idea other than the wind chime is to glue magnets in back, and since lots of bottled soda’s look retro, they look great. I just need more magnets, but the ones you used, I don’t think they were ever bottle caps, perfect, all silver in color and a bail for the chain attached, so its really not a bottle cap at all. Yes, they are inexpensive, but they only look like bottle caps, just saying. When I see something about crafts with bottle caps, I bookmark it, that is how I came across your page, and thought, wow, look how perfect they are, what kind of bottles did those come from?? I guess the answer is none! Nice necklace anyway! Thanks
Hi Helene! We appreciate your passion for bottle caps! Yes this project uses bottle caps specifically designed for jewelry making. You could use actual bottle caps to create these necklaces as well. Just with a few more steps!
so cute & creative. What a great idea 🙂
I have looked at the bottle caps I have and I have no idea what the Loom is that you say to use so I can attach it to the chain. Can you help us out here? I love this necklace and would love to make some of them.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Patsy, thanks for your comment! Sorry, that was a typo. It is a loop, not loom.
The bottle caps Crystal used already come with loops/bails attached so you can easily add a chain. See here: http://www.consumercrafts.com/store/details/catalog/jewelry-signed-sealed-and-remembered-line/ssr-517
How did you attach the chain????
Hi Ruth, thanks for your comment! The bottle caps come with a loop attached so you can add a chain easily. See here: http://www.consumercrafts.com/store/details/catalog/jewelry-signed-sealed-and-remembered-line/ssr-517
Thanks Sarah! Hi Ruth, I apologize for the confusion! The little loop in the back makes it really easy to slide the chain in. You can also use ribbon or t-shirts as a chain. I hope that helps!
Very cute necklace! These would be a great idea for any occasion or Holiday. My daughter would love to make one of these with me! Thanks for sharing!
Hugs,
Jo
Thanks Jo! My daughter loves bottle cap necklaces, they’re fun and very easy to make. I hope your daughter enjoys this project!
Hi,
I plan on making these but using the epoxy domes. How exactly would I attach them?
