First of all, isn’t my sister so cute? She agreed to model my hot pink, chunky creation and she totally rocked it. This DIY necklace works perfectly under a shirt collar. The steps to creating your own statement necklace are crazy easy so let’s get started!
Supplies needed to make your own chunky DIY necklace:
- Two Colors of Paracord (I used Neon Pink and Forest Camo)
- Purse Handle
- Hot Glue Gun
- Embroidery Floss (optional)
- Necklace Chain
- Jump Rings or Connectors
Step 2: Wrap the green paracord around the top of the handle a few times.
Step 3: Repeat Step 1 and 2 on the other side.
Step 4: Place a dab of hot glue just below the green paracord and begin wrapping your hot pink cord around the handle.
Step 5: Wrap the pink cord all the way around the handle until you reach the other green cord. To keep the wrapping tight, I periodically pushed the cord together to tighten it up. I also added a few dabs of hot glue here and there to provide more security.
Steps 6-7: If you want to add a little extra oomph, use the same method to wrap a little embroidery floss around the cord.
Step 8: Attach the necklace chain to the purse handle using jump rings or connectors (just use your fingers or a pair of pliers to open a connector and slide on the chain and purse handle). To determine the length the chain should be, I placed the purse handle on my chest to see where I wanted it to fall and then placed the chain around my neck and cut it where it met the handle.
