If you’ve seen some of my previous wreath tutorials, you know that I tend to gravitate toward more a minimal and modern style. All that flew out the window when I was making this vintage inspired DIY Halloween wreath! I kept having so much fun painting all the vintage characters and letters that I just couldn’t stop. Hope you have as much fun making one as I did!
Supplies needed to make your own vintage DIY Halloween wreath:
- 20″ Black Wreath
- 100 mm Paper Mache Ball Ornaments (3)
- 80 mm Paper Mache Ball Ornaments (3)
- Black Chevron Burlap Ribbon
- Chevron Grosgrain Ribbon
- Double Sided Hercules Tape
- 4.25″ Wood Letters (B, O, O)
- Acrylic Paints
Step One. Carefully remove the hanging strings and use acrylic paint to add color to the three largest balls. Once completely dry, use a pencil and thinner paint brush to add face details.
Step Two. Continue adding the details of each face and allow to dry.
Step 3. Use acrylic paints to decorate the letters. Again, I wanted to create a fun and busy vintage vibe to the wreath so I added bold patterns. You’re more than welcome to keep the letters more basic and just add color.
Step 4. Prep the DIY Halloween wreath by stretching out all the branches until it looks full. Tie the ribbon to the back and begin winding around the wreath.
Step 5. Apply double sided tape to the smaller orange-painted ornaments and adhere ribbon in place.
Step 6. To assemble the wreath, apply a generous amount of hot glue to the back of each ornament and letter and quickly stick in place. Make sure to press as the glue dries.
Here’s some more details to help you paint all the faces.
No worries if they’re not exactly like mine or if your lines aren’t perfectly straight. It’ll add to the entire vintage feel of the DIY Halloween wreath!
Hope you enjoyed this vintage inspired DIY Halloween wreath tutorial and have a great Halloween season!
