Nothing makes me more excited for spring than going outside and seeing my crocuses coming up and hearing birds back in the trees!
Although it is still cold and slushy, I have hope of warm weather to come. I wanted to capture “spring” in a new door hanger.
I took a different approach to the traditional wreath for this year’s spring decor. I was even able to recycle one of the branches we just pruned!
Supplies needed to make your own spring decor door hanger:
- A Branch (try to choose one with some “character”- knots, tiny branch off-shoots, etc)
- Grosgrain Ribbon (I chose green)
- White Felt
- Daisy Feltie Stickers
- Feltie Hot Pink Alphabet
- Yellow Finch 4″ Bird (or you could choose another birdie to adopt for your branch, there are so many cute little guys…) CLICK HERE FOR CUTE BIRD OPTIONS
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
The first thing you will want to do is prep your branch. Cut it down to size, and clean it, if it needs it. Then choose how you want it to hang.
Set it aside, and create the SPRING pennant banner.
I made a template out of a scrap piece of paper.
When my triangle was the size I liked, I simply set it on my piece of felt, and cut my pennants. I didn’t even trace the template, because I didn’t want to mess with trace lines. You could pin your template in place if you are worried about it sliding around. Felt is very forgiving, and can be stretched slightly if you cut funny. 🙂
Decide how long you would like your banner to be- depending on the size and number of your pennants. Measure out the ribbon you will need for the length you choose, and trim it to size. Make sure you leave space on either side to tie it to your branch.
From the Feltie Daisy Stickers, select enough yellow flowers for all of your letters.
Remove the flower centers, and glue your Pink Feltie Alphabet Letters in the center of the yellow daisies.
Run a line of hot glue on the top edge of the pennant, and adhere the pennant to your ribbon.
When all of your letters are glued into place, you can tie your finished spring decor banner to your branch.
You will notice in the original “supplies needed” photo I have, I included some green felt. I intended to use the green felt as leaves on this project. Imagine my surprise when the Feltie Daisy Stickers came with their own leaves! All cut and sized. Bonus! I just glued them in place.
Select an additional length of ribbon to hang your branch.
I used a heavy duty staple gun to hold the ribbon in place.
Probably the hardest thing about this, is deciding where to display your new Spring decor Bird-on-a-Branch!
