Summer is almost over and soon we’ll be bundled up in warm sweaters dreaming of pumpkin spice lattes! I know it’s hard to get in the mood when it’s still triple digits outside but here’s a fun and easy rustic DIY fall wreath you can start picking up supplies for so that your porch is ready when Autumn hits.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY fall wreath:
- 12″ Grapevine Wreath
- Wired Sisal Vine
- Decorative Linen Burlap Ribbon
- Baker’s Twine or Floral Wire
- Natural Pine Cones
- Framed Mini Chalkboard Tags
- Hot Glue Gun and Sticks
Step One. I wanted my wreath to be larger than 12″ and a bit more rustic looking so I disassembled my grapevine wreath a bit and stretched it out. Feel free to leave your wreath form the way it is if you’re happy with the look and size.
Step Two. Wrap wired sisal vine around wreath to secure and add a nice decorative element all at the same time.
Step Three. Form loops in the burlap ribbon and tie with baker’s twine or floral wire. Glue burlap loops in place on the DIY fall wreath with hot glue. Don’t worry about the ties being seen, the loops will lay on top of each other and hide them.
Step Four. Once ribbons are in place, apply a generous amount of hot glue to the back of the pine cones and secure in place in the desired spot on the wreath.
Step Five. Use the clothespin back to attach the mini chalkboard sign to the wreath. You can either write an Autumn sentiment by hand or print out a small faux chalkboard message and glue in place.
I love the look of this DIY fall wreath and can’t wait to decorate my front porch with it! One of my favorite parts of this tutorial is that there’s so much room for customization. You can always change out the ribbon or mini chalkboard sign to match any of your existing decor.
Hope you enjoy and have a great rest of the summer!

Could you further explain how you tied the burlap?
Hi Elizabeth, form a loop with the burlap ribbon and tie together with baker’s twine, in order to keep the loop in tact. Repeat until you have the desired amount of loops. Then hot glue the burlap loops to the wreath.
How did you make the burlap loops? I see thread holding the loops together but it wasn’t in the supplies needed.
Hi Leslie, sorry about that. Vanessa used baker’s twine for the loops – the supply list has been updated. Thanks!
What did you use to tie the loops in the burlap?
Hi Mattie, Vanessa used baker’s twine to tie the loops. You can also use floral wire. The supply list has been updated – thanks!
That is beautiful!! Looks pretty easy to do, and perfect for the Fall!! Hurry up cooler weather!! Maybe with this on the door, it will make it come faster! 🙂
