I have loved the mercury glass trend for as long as I’ve seen it floating around, but I’ve just never found exactly the right piece to buy or had the urge to try to DIY myself. When I stumbled upon these amazing faux mercury glass mason jars here on Consumer Crafts, I just knew I’d finally found the winning piece that I had to do something with! A little lace and rosettes made from corrugate paper strips made for the perfect accents. This rustic mercury glass DIY jar decor ended up turning out better than I had hoped and it’s so simple to put together.
Supplies needed to make your own mercury glass DIY jar decor:
- Gold Mercury Glass Mason Jar
- 1.5 in Wide Corrugated Cardboard Paper Roll
- White Doily Lace Tape
- White Card Stock
- Circle Punch (1.5 in)
- Craft Scissors
- Low Temp Glue Gun
Step One. To begin your DIY jar decor you will be creating a rosette out of the new corrugate paper strips. Cut a 16 inch long strip of the corrugated cardboard paper and accordion fold it at every three grooves in the cardboard for the entire length of the strip.
Step Two. Place hot glue at one end of the folded cardboard strip.
Step Three. Press the opposite end of the folded cardboard strip on top of the hot glue to form a circle. Let the glue cool completely.
Step Four. While the glue is cooling on the cardboard strip, use the circle punch to punch out two circles from the white card stock.
Step Five. After the glue has dried completely, press the top of the edge of the cardboard circle inwards to create a pinwheel. It’s going to want to jump back into a circle shape, so make sure to hold it down firmly!
Step Six. Apply a generous amount of hot glue around the edge of one of the white card stock circles and press it firmly to the center of the pinwheel.
Repeat step six for the back of the pinwheel also. This will create a nice sturdy pinwheel.
Step Seven. Cut a 10 inch strip of the doily tape and stick it to the center of the mason jar.
Step Eight. Apply a strip of hot glue down the center of the white circle on the pin wheel. I chose to do my glue on the corrugated side because I wanted the warmer tones of the smooth side to show.
Step Nine. Press the pinwheel to where the doily tape meets and creates a seam. The pinwheel will end up covering the seam.
Voila! Your super cute, mercury glass DIY jar decor is ready to be filled with your favorite flowers or be displayed in your home as rustic decor!
These dressed up jar decorations would also make for pretty centerpieces or table decor at a rustic wedding or bridal shower.
