Spring is such a beautiful time of year with green grass, the trees budding, flower pots begging to be planted. Each summer, I like to hang ferns on my front porch. It’s a little too early for planting pots and hanging baskets where I live, but there’s no reason I can’t bring the green indoors with a fern stenciled table runner DIY project…
Supplies needed to make your own fern table runner DIY project:
- Fern Stencil Templates
- Craft Burlap Fabric
- Paint Brush for Stenciling
- Chalky Finish Paint in ‘New Life’
- Plate and Surface to Paint On
Start your table runner DIY project by dabbing a little paint off of the paintbrush onto a plate. If there is too much paint on the brush, it may bleed underneath the stencil. Add a little paint at a time. You can always add more, but it is not so easy to remove the paint.
Randomly stencil fern shapes along the piece of burlap. You can add as many or as few as you like.
You can paint them all the same shade of green like I did or mix a little white in the green to make varying shades of green. This color of green paint is the perfect shade for fern fronds…
Add interest by turning the stencil and painting the fern shapes in different directions. I purposely moved the stencil around so it would look like the fern fronds had simply fallen on the table. Close up, the detail on the leaves is so pretty! And…in no time, your beautiful springy table runner DIY project is finished…
The green fern shape really pops on the burlap, but even more so when layered over a white cloth.
Add more green to the look with some succulent planters…
However you choose to decorate with your table runner DIY creation, it will bring the perfect amount of fresh spring green color inside. Hopefully this project inspires you to create this spring!
