The past few years I have gone more traditional with my holiday decorations, but this year I am bringing in the color with a few fun DIY projects. This easy colorful wood Christmas garland DIY is one of these projects and it checks off both of my DIY project requirements; it’s quick and it’s cute. Plus, I really love the look of the wood with the pops of color. If all this color is not really your style and you tend to lean more traditional with your holiday decorations, this project can also be made with shades of red and green, or actually any colors you like to match your decor.
Supplies needed to make your own Christmas garland DIY:
- Wood Veneer Adhesive Sheets (I used both birch and cherry)
- Colorful Cardstock
- 2″ Circle Punch
- String or Fishing Line
Begin by cutting out the wood veneer and card stock using the hole punch. I used a simple circle punch, but these would look cute in a star or scalloped circle shape too.
Once all your papers and wood veneer are cut, simply remove the paper backing from the wood veneer to expose the sticky back and sandwich the fishing line between the wood and paper to create a circle on the banner. Then repeat making sure with the rest of the paper and wood veneer alternating the wood and color paper so that not all the wood is on one side of the banner.
Continue until your banner reaches your desired length. I used this easy colorful wood holiday banner to decorate my mantel along with a bunch of colorful bottle brush trees and a few of these paper mache house boxes painted shades of pink.
This banner would also be mighty pretty wrapped around your tree along with a few DIY wood slice ornaments. Are you all fans of bringing in wood tones with your holiday decorations too?
