How To Make a Pillow With a Personalized Viewfinder

Fabric Crafts· Home Decor· Kids Rooms

Today, I’m going to show you how to make a pillow with a personalized photo viewfinder!

How To Make a Pillow With Personalized Viewfinder 23- Crafts UnleashedI have very fond memories of squinting into a View-Master and seeing images of my favorite cartoon characters and shows.  As a homage to this retro “icon,” I made my own fabric viewfinder with images of my favorite people, my four kids.  I placed my images onto a pillow, for all to see and enjoy!

DIY View Master Pillows

Are you ready for me to show you how to make a pillow viewfinder?! Let’s get started!

Personalized Viewfinder PillowSupplies needed to make your own personalized viewfinder pillows:

  • Silhouette Machine
  • Viewmaster Cutting File
  • Iron-On Heat Transfer Paper (Coming soon to ConsumerCrafts!)
  • Silhouette Interfacing
  • Silhouette Fabric Cutting Blade
  • Fabric & Iron
  • Pillow

How to make a pillow MaterialsStep one:  Open the file in your Silhouette Studio program.  Use the viewfinder outline to resize and position each photo into a square.  Print the photos onto the iron-on transfer paper.

step 1Step two:  Iron the interfacing onto the fabric.  Then cut the shape from the fabric.

how to make a pillow step 2Step three:  Trim the photo print out, remove the plastic backing and place it on the pillow.  Put the fabric viewfinder on top.  Cover both the fabric and pillow with the paper that comes in the iron-on pack, and iron.

step 3For the second pillow, simply iron the interfacing onto various colors of fabric, cut with the Silhouette, and iron on!  Isn’t it a fun kaleidoscope of color?

Vintage picture wheel pillowAll my kids got a kick out of these pillows, especially the one with their pictures.  My 22 month old likes to carry it around the house, point at all the pictures and name who he sees.  This would make a fun photo gift for loved ones, too!

Ok. This is the cutest thing I have seen in a long time! I love it! I think it would be so cute for my grandson for his 3rd birthday… or my sisters for our sisters getaway to each have our own one personalized. I will be doing this one! Thanks for sharing your creativity!!

Morena, these are ADORABLE! They would be a great idea for my niece and nephews who live out of town… so they can recognize our faces outside of Facetime and the occasional visit. 🙂

[…] Ah, the memories this pillow brings back for me of spending time at my grandma’s house in the summer – and laying on the ground in their front room looking up with my viewfinder at the large window in their front room.  I must have had at least 15 different “stories” I read on my viewfinder!  What a fun toy it was!  Crafts Unleashed shares her tutorial for this awesomely fun pillow here.
