I have an unusual name, which I love, but it always made me a little sad when I couldn’t find my name on items at souvenir stands and gift shops. Ordering personalized items gets expensive. Fortunately, I like to craft so I can make my own personalized items, like this sweet canvas print from Land of Nod. I just love the cute, colorful heart wall art! The original costs $128, but I’m going to show you how you can make your own DIY canvas version for much, much less!
I used a die cutting machine and die cuts but you can just as easily hand cut the hearts. Just do a Google image search for hearts, print out a template and get cutting!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY canvas wall art:
- 11 x 14 inch Canvas
- Cardstock
- Hearts Nesting Die Cuts (optional)
- Die Cutting Machine (optional)
- Mod Podge
- Alphabet Stencils
- White Craft Paint
- Chalky Finish Paint in Yesteryear
Step one. Paint the front and sides of the canvas with Chalky Finish Paint in the color Yesteryear.
Step two. Use the middle heart die from the set to cut 20 hearts as follows:
3 each: white, black, turquoise, coral
2 each: light pink, dark pink, fuchsia, red
Note: If you don’t have the exact color you want, paint the cardstock heart, or substitute another color. I painted some of mine because I wanted to replicate the original as closely as possible.
Step three. Alter the hearts by cutting them again with the die at various angles, then trim off the sharp corners with scissors.
Step four. Arrange the hearts on the canvas as pictured. Use Mod Podge to attach them to the DIY canvas. Paint a light application of Mod Podge on the back of the heart, and press it onto the canvas.
Step five. Use a stencil to lightly pencil the name onto the canvas. Paint over it with a fine tip brush and white paint.
You can leave the DIY canvas as is, or seal it with a finishing spray if you want to. I wish you could have seen my daughter’s eyes light up when she saw this wall art with her name on it! The fact that I got to make it for her makes it a little more special, I think.
Have fun creating personalized DIY canvas wall art for the special people in your life!

Our grand daughter’s names are Delainey which is seen more often these days, and Tiernan May which have never seen anywhere else. I’d love to make one of these for each of them in colors they love. Oldest is going off to college in just few days so might be nice decoration for her dorm room. Can make one for Tiernan for her room at home. She’s 15 so will be little while yet at least before she’ll be going to college.
I like the kinda off kilter heart you made, gives it more kick. This will be easy and quick to make as time is running out before Delainey leaves for San Rafael, CA to Dominican University. She has very good scholarship.
Sure glad to have clicked on your post. Also love the triangles art, want to do that one for myself. Might just use a canvas I have as don’t have money for plywood. Hubs can make a frame for it out of pallet wood. Love idea of different colored triangles maybe. I like to change things for my own when I see great ideas, makes it little more my own. You make such wonderful projects, always enjoy and want to make myself. We’re on SS so making my own art is fun as well as frugal. Can feel ok about changing art out when I get tired of it which I tend to do seasonally. Have great weekend
What beautiful names! I’m glad you enjoyed the project!
This is amazing! My daughter’s name is Cadence which I love but there is no ready-made name item for her anywhere. I’ll be making this with my silhouette ASAP! Thanks for the idea!
I’m so glad you like it!
