Some of my favorite whimsical craft projects are made especially for my garden. There’s just something about plants that allows a certain amount of childlike wonder and play! If you’re into fairy gardens, you’re going to love this magical DIY fairy house planter tutorial. It’s got all the fun of ConsumerCrafts miniatures while still being a working planter. Fun and functional? Total win/win!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY fairy house planter:
- 5 Inch Terra Cotta Planter
- Mini Fairy Garden Door Walkway Set
- Flocked Moss Fairy Garden Stones
- River Rocks
- Preserved Green Sheet Moss
- Mini Welcome Sign
- Miniature Garden Tool Set
- Mini Mushrooms
- Gorilla Glue or Dual Temp Glue Gun
Step One. First things first, let’s talk about supplies. ConsumerCrafts has a ton of miniature fairy garden supplies to choose from so the supply list above is really just suggestions in case you want to make a DIY fairy house pot that’s identical to mine. The only exception to the supply list is that I used smooth river rocks but I think the moss fairy garden stones would look awesome!
Step Two. Follow the instructions on the back of the Gorilla Glue to best attach all the embellishments.
Step Three. Once the door and all the rocks are securely attached to the terra cotta pot, begin gluing the moss into all the cracks and the crevices. I’m planning on using this pot indoors with an interior plastic shield so I just used hot glue. You’ll have to use a stronger glue if you’re planning on keeping it in a less stable environment or plan on watering your plants inside of the planter.
Step Four. Finish the DIY fairy house planter by adding the metal garden tools and mushrooms. I attached the “Home Sweet Home” sign to an upside down tool but you could also use a small twig if you’d like.
Home Sweet Home
I only covered the front part of my planter but you could definitely cover the entire surface if you’d like. You could even add a mini outdoor bench or a garden trellis to the back! Seriously, your options are almost endless considering just how many fairy garden supplies there are.
Hope you have a wonderfully magical time making these DIY fairy house planters!

I don’t use gorilla glue because it’s not animal friendly. I also want to put my fairy garden in the yard. I think the heat will melt the hot glue. I wonder if liquid nails or something else might work better.
Rosalind, you could try E-6000! https://www.consumercrafts.com/store/search?s=e6000&p=1&ps=20
I failed with the Gorilla Glue! I doesn’t grab the item and takes too long to set up.. What a mess! I want to use this outside as a real planter, so I sealed the clay and my granddaughters and I began. The directions on the Gorilla Glue talk about clamping things in place and I see why they recommend because of the set time. It was so frustrating! My husband said we should try Loctite Premium Grab. Weather proof and its gray looks like mortar. It took about the same time to set up but it’s thick enough to stay in place and hold the door, stones etc… In place! So happy we didn’t give up! Very pleased with the end results.
Really cute idea.y kids will love this. They want to make a whole village. Guess I will need alot of pots
wow.. Mind blowing job you did. I really really love it. so Innovative design.

Love this. Thank you.
This looks like so much fun! TFS!
I know a lot of folks who would love this, but other than outdoor glue, do you spray it with an outdoor sealer so it can be used in the garden?
I’m planning on using mine indoors so I didn’t seal it. A spray sealant might help but mostly I’d be worried about the moss falling off. If you’ve got a little more time and patience, you could use some sort of grout and that would definitely make it more outdoor-friendly!
I really like this I made a whole town last year
This is so AWESOME!!!! LOVE it!!!!!
Where do you buy the little parts
