Inspired by these art frames from Anthropologie, I set out to transform simple wood frames into beautiful pieces of wall art. With a little clay and paint, you too, can turn basic frames into pieces that are a little bit more sophisticated. Follow along as I show you how to create your own embellished DIY wood frame.
Supplies needed to make your own embellished DIY wood frames:
- Wide Wood Photo Frames
- Craft Paint in Your Choice of Colors
- Wood Glue
- Mod Podge Molds (I used Royal Icons Molds)
- Sculpey Clay
- Krylon Triple Thick Glaze
Step one. Press the clay into the Mod Podge mold and remove excess.
Step two. Transfer the molded clay to a cookie sheet and bake per package instructions.
Step three. Use wood glue to attach the baked clay pieces to the wood frames.
Step four. Paint the wood frames. Use a baby wipe or damp towel to gently remove some of the paint from the clay, exposing the clay.
Step five. Glue the 3.5 x 5 inch frame on top of the 4 x 6 frame with the wood glue. Let dry completely. I sealed the project with an application of glaze.
Now you can replace the glass and add your favorite pictures to the DIY wood frame. These also make beautiful mini shadow boxes.
I glued steampunk butterfly jewelry charms onto cardstock to make pretty pieces of wall art. You could even add your own artwork to these mini DIY wood frame galleries. Have fun crafting and creating!
