You may think it’s nutty to start thinking about Christmas in July. But I think it’s genius.
Some of my girlfriends and I were just talking about how if you started getting ready for Christmas in July, the month of December wouldn’t be such a hectic time. And handmade gifts wouldn’t be such a daunting task.
Turning these lanterns into Christmas lighting with DIY vinyl decals was ridiculously easy. And these are the kinds of crafts that can be so rewarding. Five minutes, a bit of vinyl, and it’s suddenly Christmas.
Supplies needed to make your own Christmas lanterns with DIY vinyl decals:
- 3 Simple Flower Filigree Lanterns
- Black Adhesive Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Silhouette Cutting Machine (large paper punches will work if you don’t have a cutting machine)
- LED String Lights or LED Candle
These lanterns on their own are already pretty cute. I love the distressed paint and the filigree pattern. But I felt as though the glass needed a bit of dressing up. A bit of holiday style, if you will.
I used my Silhouette cutting machine to cut out some DIY vinyl decals ornament shapes. If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can use paper or scrapbooking punches to get the same look of black adhesive vinyl.
What did I ever do before adhesive vinyl? It’s one of my most favourite craft supplies.
I’ve fallen in love with these little LED light strands. They are intended to be used in floral arrangements, but I think that they are fabulous in lighting.
Mix the strands with holly, burlap or ribbon to create gorgeous styling.
