I am absolutely crazy over anything coastal. One of my favorite stores sells these decorative spheres for $10.00 each. I’ve been wanting to get some for the house, but not wanting to spend the money. I knew I could make them myself for much cheaper! This DIY shell decor project is the perfect touch of coastal that I was looking for and seriously so easy to make!
I found all the supplies I needed and had these decorative DIY shell decor spheres made in about 10 minutes. One of my favorite things about this project is it’s actually made using sturdy glass ornaments, not plastic.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY shell decor:
- Clear Glass Ornaments
- Decorative Tan Colored Sand
- Hot Glue Gun
- Decorative Jute Balls
- Jute Cord
- Small Craft Shells
Step 1 – Add Your Sand.
To get started you need to add your sand first. You can use decorative sand or sand you’ve saved from a beach trip!
Step 2 – Add Shells.
Now it’s time to add your shells. These mini shells fit in perfectly.
Step 3 – Glue Top on.
I didn’t want the tops falling off so I hot glued them into place. Since I removed the things that hang them up as ornaments there were two holes left on top. I just added a little hot glue to them to keep the sand from falling out.
Step 4 – Add Your Jute.
This step is totally up to you. I decided to wrap the tops with some jute, to give it that extra touch!
I also found these decorative jute balls that would be perfect sitting in the basket too!
Don’t they look pretty grouped together in this basket! This is DIY shell decor is perfect for summer or anytime of the year.
