Can you believe we’re seeing fall decor in stores now? Let me gear you up with this simple and modern fall DIY farmhouse sign that you can create just in time for the season – and there’s no fancy tools required! Read on how to make it below.
- 1/2″ 12” x 24” Plywood Plank
- 1/4″ Basswood
- Transfer Sheet
- Acrylic Paint
- Foam Brush
- Wood Glue
- White Spray Paint
- Wood Stain
- Electronic Die Cutter
- Miter Box
- Picture Hanger (optional)
Step 1. Sand the surface and edges of your plywood until it’s smooth and there are no bits sticking out. Wipe it down to remove the dust prior to painting.
Step 2. Paint one layer of acrylic paint on the surface and let it dry.
Step 3. Size, cut and weed the negative parts of vinyl sheet.
Step 4. Transfer the cut out to the dried plywood surface, making sure you center it.
Step 5. Once your vinyl letters are fully stuck on the wood, spray a coat of spray paint on your surface. Let it dry, and spray one or two more coats as needed.
Step 6. Once the paint is dry, peel off your letters.
Step 7. If your letters are not perfect like mine, you can fix it with a small paintbrush and black paint or distress is (like what I did). I must say, I love the distressed look on this modern sign!
Step 8. Measure and cut your wood siding. I used a simple miter box to cut the wood strips.
Step 9. Stain your wood siding and let it dry.
Step 10. Attach the framing with wood glue and wait for that to dry. If you would like it to be more secure, nail the siding with a nail/staple gun.
Attach a picture hanger if you are hanging it, or keep as is if you are adding it on your mantel or your entryway.
