I love the colors and textures of fall. I can’t have enough fall decor in my life! Today’s DIY fall decor project is a smaller sized canvas, just 8″ x 8″, but it packs a big decorative punch!
I love the texture of the burlap canvas! It came like that. Yep. Already wrapped in burlap. Easy for me (and you!).
Supplies needed to make your own DIY fall decor canvas:
- Canvas Corp 8×8 Burlap Canvas
- 3″ Paper Mache Box
- David Tutera Wired Linen Flowers
- Canvas Corp Mini Triangle Canvas Shapes
- Chipboard Letters
- Floral Foam
- Jute Cord
- Hot Glue Gun/Glue Sticks
- Misc. Floral Picks/Sprays as desired
You will need to cut your paper mache box in half, so it will lay flat against your burlap canvas. There isn’t an easy way to do it, use some heavy duty scissors and cut down both sides.
I didn’t measure or anything, I just eyeballed it. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it is going to be glued onto the canvas. When the sides are cut, bend the paper mache box, and cut through the center of the bottom of the box.
Use a generous amount of hot glue on all of the cut sides, and adhere the half box to your canvas.
Make sure you adhere the bottom of the box against the wood frame of the bottom of the canvas. This will give it stability as opposed to just adhering it to the burlap itself.
Cut a small piece of floral foam to fit the inside of the half paper mache box. Put a little hot glue on the bottom of the floral foam piece to hold it into place.
The flower picks that I used were individually wired. This made this DIY fall decor project a really quick one!
Separate your flowers, and start arranging them into your paper mache box!
Add any floral picks or sprays you like! Fill your paper mache box as desired.
I used pliers to trim the wires on some of the flowers so they were all different heights.
When you are satisfied with how your DIY fall decor arrangement looks- you might notice that it is a little top-heavy.
Secure the DIY fall decor arrangement to the canvas by hot gluing a few of the flower petals from the flowers in the back to the canvas.
I made a “Fall” bunting to go across the canvas. The canvas triangles were a little large for this project, so I chose to cut them down.
The bonus is- there were two triangles stitched together in each triangle, so when I cut them, I got double the amount of shapes! Win!
Adhere the triangles to a length of jute, and tie knots in both ends of the bunting.
Adhere the knots to both sides of the DIY fall decor canvas- going over and across the paper mache box.
Adhere chipboard letters to the bunting pennants.
That’s it! Look at all the fabulous dimension and texture in this DIY fall decor piece!
Just one little (8″x8″) reason to be excited for fall!
