I am loving the look of metallics right now so I thought I would whip up some copper foil homemade coasters for my home. The copper foil tape from Consumer Crafts makes this one a quick and easy craft that anyone can make. Follow along below and make your own version this weekend.
- Unfinished Wood Coaster Set.
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint (I used Everlasting White).
- Darice Foil Tape (I used copper metallic).
- EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy.
- Felt Pads.
Paint the coasters with a few coats of chalky paint allowing to dry in between coats. I think I used 3 coats on mine to get even coverage. Allow the paint to fully cure and then add strips of the copper tape however you would like.
I added a coat of epoxy to protect my homemade coasters and make them last a long time. Do not be scared of this step! It is really very simple. Just mix equal parts of the two bottles that are included in the kit. Be sure to follow the instructions when mixing exactly.
Then just pour over the coasters and smooth out to a nice even layer. TIP: Raise the coasters by setting them on something to ensure they do not stick to the surface they are on. Protect your surface with cardboard or something else disposable. After you have spread your epoxy, pop any bubbles by running a lighter over the surface but DO NOT touch the surface with the flame.
Allow to cure completely. Overnight worked well on my set. I then added felt pads to the bottom of each coaster to protect my table. NOTE: I did not do anything to the container that the coasters came in as we just stack them on the table in the family room. You can absolutely paint it as well.
