If you’ve been on Pinterest lately, I’m sure you’ve noticed how popular celestial decor is right now. Whether it’s the phases of the moon or your astrological symbol, everyone seems to have their eyes on the skies! When brainstorming cute embroidery ideas, I came up with this lighted constellation embroidery that includes both the decor trend as well as a sweet memoir of our little family. It’s easy to customize to fit your needs!
Supplies needed for Lighted Constellation Cute Embroidery Ideas:
- Wooden Embroidery Hoops: 5 x 9 inch Oval
- Darice Moon Lights
- Clover Embroidery Stitching Tool
- Silver Embroidery Floss
- Navy Blue Fabric
- Darice Brown Matte Acrylic Paint
- White Graphite Paper
- Hot Glue Gun / Sticks
- Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue
- “You Are My Shining Star” Free File
To begin, use the white graphite paper to transfer the words from the “You Are My Shining Star” free file. I found it helpful to mark four spots around the oval for the embroidery frame as well.
Cut out the constellations that represent each of your family members and place them around the words. Use transfer paper and a pencil to mark the star patterns on the fabric.
Use either the embroidery stitching tool or just your standard embroidery needle to begin transferring the design. Depending on your abilities, this may take a while. Don’t rush the process, just put a good movie on and enjoy stitching!
When you get to the stars, use french knots. Continue embroidering until all the words and constellations are complete!
With the embroidery section of this tutorial complete, you can either leave the embroidery hoop the way it is or paint it with another color. I mixed a bit of water with the brown paint and lightly applied the “stain” to the wood.
Squeeze out a small amount of glue around the inside of the hoop and tighten in place over embroidery. I’ve got to be honest with you. The amount of glue in the picture below was way too much! It went everywhere when I tightened the frame. I highly suggest going with little dribbles of clear glue instead.
Now that the embroidery hoop is completed, you can decide whether or not to add the lighted stars. Of course, the lights are completely optional but I love how they look! Just apply a dot of hot glue to the back of the embroidery and press the light in place until secure. Continue working around the oval until all the lights are used up. You can hot glue the battery case to the back side of the hoop but make sure that you’re still able to change out the battery.
I just love cute embroidery ideas like this! Don’t you love the way the lighted embroidery hoop looks both on and off? Such a sweet way to let your family members know just how important they are to you!
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and have fun making cute embroidery ideas of your own!
