Summer is in full swing and there is no better time than now to throw a colorful party. Think palm leaves, tropical flowers, good food, and friends. To get you started with your party planning, I am sharing these easy colorful plaster DIY candle holders. These candle holders can be easily customized in a variety of shapes and colors to match your table setting too. The possibilities are endless!
Of course I made these colorful plaster DIY candle holders as colorful as possible, because more color is always better in my book! Follow along below for the easy DIY tutorial.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY candle holders:
- Precious Impressions Casting Plaster.
- Acrylic Craft Paint.
- Geometric Shaped Mold.
- Colorful Taper Candles.
- 3/4″ Copper End Caps (optional).
- Plastic Disposable Cup and Spoon.
Start by mixing your plaster with water and the acrylic paint color of your choice. I followed the directions on the package using 1/2 cup of plaster per shaped mold. Mix your plaster with the ratio of water it calls for on the package and then add in a tablespoon or two of acrylic paint. You want to be careful not to add too much paint or your plaster will not set correctly. By adding a tablespoon or two of paint you will get a nice color but still allow the plaster to harden. Be warned, when you add the paint, the plaster will seize a bit. You can add a tablespoon of water to make the mixture a bit smoother. Then pour into your mold leaving about 1/4″ unfilled at the top.
Once your plaster is in the mold, tap the mold gently on the table to remove any air bubbles and help level the plaster. Finally it is time to either insert your candles directly into the plaster mix or use a copper end cap. The copper end cap will allow you to reuse the DIY candle holders. Inserting the candle directly into the mix will create a one time use holder.
You are almost done! The last step is to let your plaster sit overnight. Patience is a virtue! Once it has fully hardened, un-mold and they are ready to use.
Craft tip: use a bit of clay in the bottom of your copper end caps to hold the candles in place.
Now if these candles don’t make you want to throw a party ASAP, I don’t know what will. You can see these are easily customized to the colors of your party. All blues would be pretty, or how about white and shades of pink for an ombre effect?
Any way you make them, these colorful plaster candle holders will give your party the colorful punch it needs!
