Looking for a fun way to add some color to your home? How about using chalky finish paint and mason jars to create a lovely DIY planter box? Not only is this project customizable to any color and decor style, but it is a simple craft that can be created quickly. This chalk painted mason jar DIY planter box can be used for home decor, parties, and even wedding centerpieces.
Supplies needed to make your own chalk painted DIY planter box:
- 12″ Unfinished Wood Planter Box
- 16oz Mason Jars (3)
- Chalky Finish Paint
- Sponge Brushes
- Silhouette Vinyl and Transfer Tape
- Silhouette Cameo
Step 1. You’ll start by washing and drying your mason jars thoroughly to prepare for painting. This will help remove any residue and prep the surface of the jars for the most even paint application.
After the jars are dried, you’ll start painting the exterior of the mason jars with chalky finish paint using a sponge brush. You’ll need to apply 2-3 coats of paint to completely cover the jar for an opaque finish. Be sure to let each coat dry completely before applying the next coat.
Step 2. Now it’s time to paint your DIY planter box. You’ll apply paint using a sponge brush and let it dry.
Step 3. While the box is drying, you’ll create a “bloom” stencil using your silhouette cameo and vinyl. Apply using transfer tape and start painting on your design.
Step 4. Now you’ll remove your stencil and fill the mason jars with flowers. Attach the jar rim and place the mason jars in the DIY planter box and enjoy your beautiful new centerpiece!
