I spied this little stool one day at an antique shop. The yellow color caught my attention, I loved the simplicity of it and I thought it would look interesting in my living room. I brought it home and it was just the opposite. It looked so out of place that I ended up moving it to my basement (where all unfinished projects go) and it sat there for over a year.
I had the opportunity to use the Americana Decor Chalk Paints on another chalk paint furniture project and I fell in love with this paint. It is simply the best chalk paint I have used. It goes on smooth and is very forgiving once you start painting. I love the matte look finish it has once the chalk paint furniture is dried. So, I pulled this little stool out from the depths of my basement to give it a look that would match my living room.
Supplies needed to make your own chalk paint furniture makeover:
- Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint – Everlasting White
- Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint – Relic Dark Grey
- Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint – Varnish
- Paint Brush
- FrogTape Shape Tape – Chevron (optional)
When working with chalk paint I like to use a high density foam roller. It will cut down on any brush strokes that you may have when using a standard paint brush.
I wanted to give my chalk paint furniture a little something extra so I added chevron stripes. To achieve this look I used Frog Tape Shape Tape in Chevron. I made sure to line up the chevron pattern and spaced it about 1 inch apart.
I simply painted the top of the stool using the chalk paint in Everlasting. It took about 4 coats to completely cover the top.
I waited a few hours before pulling off the shape tape. Waiting was the hardest part of this whole project! I couldn’t wait to see what it looked like!
I carefully peeled off the tape and revealed a fun chevron pattern underneath. I used the soft touch Americana Decor varnish to seal the project.
I love how my chalk paint furniture turned out! It looks adorable in my living room and I have been even using it for photography. It makes a cute photo prop! I’ve also have used it as a photo backdrop.
