I just love to repurpose items into something that is new and useful! It’s my favorite way to craft. When I decided to update the lamp on my nightstand, I was inspired by several projects I’d seen on Pinterest. The other projects involved tools and hardware, so I modified the idea to incorporate craft items I already had on hand to create this book DIY lamp. I’m comfortable using glues and resin, so I went with what I knew. I absolutely love the end result! Not only does this DIY lamp provide light, it’s fun to look at, too, and it blends in with all the other books on my nightstand! It’s easy to make, and you can have this project finished quickly.
Supplies needed to make your own book DIY lamp:
- Hardcover Books (3)
- Mod Podge
- Clear Casting Epoxy Resin
- E-6000 Adhesive
- Edison Bulb
- Cleveland Vintage Lighting DIY Mason Jar Light Fixture
- Brush
Step one. Paint the sides of the book with Mod Podge. This will seal the paper and protect it from getting stained by the resin. Let the first application dry, then apply a second layer of Mod Podge.
Step two. Mix the resin according to the package instructions. Paint the Mod Podged sides of the book with resin.
Note: The cup and brush will be damaged by the resin (you can’t clean it off easily) so use something that is disposable. Protect your work surface well and work in a well ventilated room.
Step three. Paint the cover of the bottom book with resin and place the middle book on top. Paint the middle book cover with resin and place the top book over the resin. Let this dry for 24 hours.
Step four. Use E-6000 to glue the lamp lid adapter to the top book. Let it dry, then add the light bulb.
Your fun book DIY lamp is ready to go! Simply plug it in and turn it on and off with the sliding switch. No need for power tools or fancy wiring skills…the easy to use lighting kit makes this a simple project for beginning DIYers to complete.
Have fun crafting and turning unwanted books into a useful DIY lamp!
