Macrame is hitting main stream again and it is hot! I wanted to give it a go with a couple of super simple projects. My solution was DIY paracord macrame gift wrap. I came up with two different ways to incorporate beginning macrame knots into pretty packages that are perfect for a birthday or any other celebration.
All you need for this DIY paracord macrame gift wrap project is paracord!
I used paracord in a variety of colors for my version but you could also try macrame cord instead.
Next I had to actually LEARN some basic knots. The best place I found was a website dedicated to learning macrame. I walked through a few of the basic tutorials until I built up enough confidence to tackle something picture worthy.
The DIY paracord macrame picture above uses alternating square knots. You can then tie those cords on the back of your package and trim the ends.
I also figured out a little trick. If you make the fleur de lis and pull on the loops you can make a pretty convincing five petal flower.
A couple of those flowers stacked on top of one another and tied around a gift was my second DIY paracord macrame gift wrap idea.
All in all I would advise that macrame takes time to learn! Don’t jump into one of these right before leaving for a birthday party. It took me a few hours just to master any of these techniques. But it is rewarding and just look what great DIY paracord macrame packages you can make with your new found skill!

Is Macrame really coming back? I’ve seen a little I guess on blog land, surprised but guess shouldn’t be as macrame has been idle for long time, since the 70?’s or 80’s? I was busy raising four kids and working. My Mom used to make macrame things alot now that I think about it. I don’t think I really ever did. Sewed alot for kids and myself/house but not macrame. Interesting that’s it’s coming back.
Your pkgs. look great especially with flower knots on pkg. How did you know how to make that? Looks really pretty .THe other knots look complicated but then I’m not good at that kind of thing, eyes and hangs don’t work too well together anymore, (if they ever did like typing). Happy weekend
I love this! And I will admit that I *might* be looking forward to trying a few more serious knots on certain gifts. For example, the gifts going to those wiseguys in my family who like to put smaller boxes in progressively larger boxes… and those who utilize duct tape for wrapping presents.
