With spring upon us, it’s a great time to help out the neighborhood birdies AND recycle your leftover yarn bits which usually head to the trash. It’s so simple to make a bird nest helper with leftover yarn.
Supplies needed to make your own bird nest helper:
- Plastic Canvas (5 mesh -the smaller the mesh #, the larger the holes)
- Embroidery Floss
- Leftover Bits of Yarn
- Plastic Needle (optional)
Step 1. Cut out six shapes from the plastic canvas. For a square box, you need to cut out six square pieces of plastic canvas, all the same size. I went with a rectangle box so I cut out four rectangle pieces and two square pieces for the ends.Step 2. Lay out the pieces as shown below. Use the embroidery floss to tie all the pieces together at the corners. Don’t tie on the top of the box just yet. Step 3. To make it really easy for the birds to pull the yarn out of the bird nest helper box, I cut a few openings on each side. Fortunately it’s so easy to cut plastic canvas so I literally just snipped a few pieces off here and there.Step 4. Place the yarn trimmings in the box.
