Please Note: This pattern uses American crochet terms and is free for personal use only.
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Half Double Crochet (hdc)
- Double Crochet (dc)
- Treble Crochet (trc)
Special Stitches Used:
Single Crochet Spike Stitch (sc spike): The single crochet spike stitch is basically just an elongated single crochet that is worked into a lower round instead of the previous round. Insert your hook into the stitch indicated, draw up a loop, and pull the yarn up to the height of the working yarn. Yarn over, and pull the yarn through both loops to finish the sc spike.
Half Treble Crochet (htr): This stitch is between a double and treble crochet stitch in height. It begins like a treble crochet by wrapping the yarn around your hook twice. Next, insert hook into indicated stitch and yarn over (four loops on hook). Yarn over and draw through two loops (three loops on hook). Finally, yarn over and draw through all loops. Half treble crochet formed.

Crochet Heart Pattern with Loop.
Work Rounds 1-4 following the Crochet Heart Pattern above.
Rnd 5: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in next 4 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch 2 sp, hdc in next 9 sts, 2 dc in next st, htrc in next st, 2 htrc in next st, (htrc, trc, htrc) in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next st, ch 1, sl st in sc, ch 16, sl st in same st to form loop, ch 1, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, (htrc, trc, htrc) in next st, 2 htrc in next st, htrc in next st, 2 dc in next st, hdc in next 4 sts, sl st to join. Finish off and weave in ends.
Once you have the two hearts completed, use your needle and thread to sew a button onto the front of the heart without the loop. You can place the heart with the loop behind the simple heart to help you measure where the button should be placed. I sewed mine on just a bit above the center of the heart.
Once the button is attached, line up the two hearts with their wrong sides facing. Insert your crochet hook 8 stitches to the left of the center of the heart going through both hearts.
Then work one single crochet stitch in each stitch around the heart. In the point of the heart, work a single crochet stitch, chain one, and then work another single crochet stitch all in the chain one space.
When you get around to the other side of the heart (the 8th stitch to the right of the center), you can either finish of your yarn then (if you do not want a strap on the bag), OR you can work a long chain to create a strap for your bag as I did.
You can make the chain as long as you like. I did 160 chains to create a long strap. When the chain is as long as you like it, slip stitch the chain to the first single stitch you used to sew the pouch together.
Finally finish of the yarn and weave in your ends.
And that’s it! Your cute little heart pouch is all done!
Who would you give a crochet heart pouch to?
