There are so many large paper flower tutorials on the internet that you may be thinking, “Why make another one?” I’ll tell you why: this paper flower tutorial can be made inexpensively with just a few sheets of crepe paper, hot glue, and some sharp scissors. That’s right, no cutting machine required! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my cutting machine but sometimes you just need to cut a few circles and magically turn them into these beautiful Easy XL Crepe Paper Flowers!
Supplies needed to make this crepe paper flower tutorial:
Fold a 2′ section of the crepe paper in half and trace three sized circles on top. Cut out shapes with a pair of scissors. You can make the circles as big or as little as you need them. For the example I photographed in this tutorial I cut out four of each 12″, 9″, and 6″ circles. My final flower was approximately 12″ wide.
Take one of the circles and fold in half. Press the folded edge flat with your finger.
Fold the half circle again on itself.
Fold the quarter piece one more time. You should be left with a 1/8 section of the circle.
Use your scissors to cut the edge of the “pie slice” into a heart shape. Cut the middle of the heart approximately 2/3 of the way down.
Open the flower shape halfway and cut the remaining petals apart. Use the previous slits as guidelines for how far you should cut. Repeat steps 2-6 for all circle cutouts.
Once all the circles have been cut, begin folding each petal in half. Don’t worry about making all the petals the same. Actually, it’ll look more realistic if they aren’t perfect!
Continue folding all the petals. Look how pretty it already looks!
Starting with the largest circles, add a bit of hot glue to the center and press one sheet at a time together.
To make the center of the flower, cut a 5′ section of crepe paper streamer and fold in half. Use a pair of normal or fringe scissors to cut small sections in the top of the streamer.
Wind up the cut yellow streamer, adding hot glue occasionally to secure. Squeeze some hot glue to the bottom and press in the center of the flower. Gently press out the fringe layers until you’re happy with the look.
Cut a piece of cardstock into a circle and glue to the back. You can also add a looped string with hot glue if you want to hang from a nail. These are so lightweight that you can also use double-sided tape to hang.
Repeat all the steps to make the desired amount of flowers. Don’t forget to try different fun colors!
I absolutely love how easy it was to make this XL Crepe Paper Flower and that I only need a few supplies to complete it!
Wouldn’t these be perfect for any nursery or as decorations for a shower? Hope this paper flower tutorial comes in handy for all your decorating needs!
