During the dark winter, color is something that is very much needed in everyone’s life. I definitely need it, along with some inspiration. This DIY quote board is a perfect way to get all your favorite colors nicely together. It’s not hard to do. After you get your colors on there, you can pick your favorite inspirational quote and add it to it. You can hand paint it on, or use your cutting machine to add your favorite quote.
- Plain Wood Plaque
- Various Favorite Paint Colors
- Wide Paint Brush
- Vinyl (or paint brush for hand lettering)
Step 1: Stain your wood.
Stain your wood. I stained it with a light walnut color. Let dry and coat it in acrylic spray to seal the stain on. Or if you would prefer, you could leave the wood bare or paint the wood all white.
Step 2. Paint the rainbow stripes.
Practice on a piece of 8.5 x 11 piece of paper and practice your paint strokes. It doesn’t have to be perfectly aligned, just do some a different heights. Once you are happy with your practice pages. Do your paint strokes on your wood piece.
Step 3: Add eye screws.
To your top of your board add screw eyes.
Step 4: Add vinyl or paint quote.
The last step is to add vinyl. You can do regular vinyl or heat transfer vinyl. I wanted the bottom words to stand out, so I added black vinyl on top to make it pop.
And that’s it. Hang it on your wall. What colors would you choose? What quote would you add to yours? This would be a great piece to hang in your creative office space or even in a living room gallery wall that matched the rest of the decor. I would love to see your own creations.
