I feel like my kiddos’ rooms are always a work in progress. While they may be done for the most part, I find I’m always tweaking and changing and adding extra pieces as I find them or make them. Reagan’s room pays homage to all things girly and dance obsessed. The walls are painted a pale pink and has ballerina accents throughout. When I found this sweet barn wood style heart, I knew it would be a perfect match for Reagan’s room. This DIY wood heart adds a little extra love to her decor.
While this painted DIY wood heart project is really simple, it does take a little bit of time when you factor in paint needing to dry in between coats.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY wood heart decor:
- Barn Wood Style Unfinished Heart
- Americana Chalky Paint in Everlasting White
- Americana Chalky Paint in Innocence Pink
- Foam Paint Brushes
- Sand Paper
Step One. Begin this DIY wood heart project by painting the entire heart piece with the Innocence paint. This layer of paint doesn’t need to be 100% perfect as you’ll be painting more layers on top. Allow it to dry completely.
Step Two. When the heart is completely dry, paint a thick layer of the Everlasting paint that covers the entire heart. Make sure to cover every inch of the pink paint. Let it dry completely. If the pink paint still shows through, add a second coat of the Everlasting paint. You want to make sure that none of the raw wood or Innocence paint shows through.
Step Three. Use the sand paper to lightly remove parts of the Everlasting paint to reveal the Innocence underneath. You can go crazy and reveal a lot of the pink paint, or use a lighter hand with the sand paper to show just a bit like I have.
This DIY wood heart is pretty simple, right?! My daughter is in love with how it turned out and has it displayed proudly in her room among all of her other knick knacks. Mom win!
