With the change of seasons, I’ve been looking for ways to incorporate more greenery into my home decor. With that goal in mind, I decided to create a farmhouse style container where I could display faux succulents (since I am not nearly responsible enough for real plants). This stylish DIY succulent planter box is the perfect way to add farmhouse flair to an end table, bookcase or entry table.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY succulent planter box:
- Wood and Chicken Wire Planter Box
- 16 oz. Mason Jars (3)
- Americana Decor Everlasting White Chalky Paint
- Foam Paint Brush
- DecoArt Acrylic Craft Paint in Storm Cloud Gray, and Shimmering Silver
- Artificial Succulents
Begin your DIY succulent planter box project by painting the entire planter box with metallic craft paint. You will probably need two coats for complete coverage.
When the base coat of metallic paint is dry, dab small amounts of gray paint over the metallic paint using a paper towel. This gives the project that weathered metal look. If you apply too much gray paint, go over it again with more metallic. Continue layering paint until you have achieved a look you like.
Next, you will paint each of the mason jars with chalk paint. They will need at least two coats for complete coverage. When the paint is dry, lightly sand some surfaces to add character.
Place the mason jars inside the planter box, add your cute little succulents and enjoy your one-of-a-kind DIY succulent farmhouse decor!
