DIY Watermelon Soap Recipe

Craft Basics· Party Favors· Summer

Today’s project was by far- the easiest clean-up of any project I have done! And my whole house smells fantastic! With a just a few ingredients, you can mix up your own batch of summer-scented watermelon soap with this DIY soap recipe.

Supplies needed to make your own watermelon DIY soap recipe:

  • Clear Glycerin Soap Base
  • Shea Butter Soap Base
  • Geometric Soap Molds
  • Red, Yellow & Blue Soap Dye Set
  • Abbey & Sullivan Cucumber Melon Fragrance Oil
  • Black Seed Beads or Poppy Seeds
  • Wood Craft Sticks
  • Clear Glass Measuring Cup
  • Teaspoon Measuring Spoon

Cut your soap base into smaller pieces. I just guessed on how much I would need for my molds. The smaller pieces help it to melt quicker in the microwave.

Place the cut pieces into a glass microwave-safe measuring cup. Microwave until the soap base is melted.

Add coloring. I added until I liked the color.

Mix well, and then add 1 tsp. of cucumber melon scent. Mix again.

Pour soap mixture into your mold (about 2/3 full). Make sure you leave some room at the top for the additional white and green layers.

Add seed beads to the mold. Most will sink to the bottom initially. Wait until the soap forms a slight skin at the top, and add more beads. These will stick closer to the top of the soap.

If you have extra soap mixture, I made some mini-soaps using a silicone ice cube tray.

Another option, if you dislike the seed beads in your soap, and wish to go a more natural route- use poppy seeds.

Allow the melon soap base to completely solidify.

Melt a small amount of white soap base.

Pour the white soap base over the melon soap. Make sure it is an even layer.

Allow this layer to cool.

Melt a small amount of white soap base, add green coloring to it. Pour the green layer over the white layer in your mold.

Allow the soap to harden completely. This may take several hours. Don’t try to remove it early- it will pop right out when it is completely cured.

I loved the layers in the mold. This is a view of the bottom of the mold when I was (not so) patiently trying to wait.

Pop the soap out of the mold. You can choose to cut the soap in half, or leave it whole.

We found that the half bars were easier for little hands to hold.

I made several bars of this DIY soap recipe to keep on hand for gift-giving!

A fun, unique (and useful!) “You’re One in a Melon.”

Love the look, but both seed beads and poppy seeds are terrible options. Poppy seed especially will be really harsh on the skin, it’s really unpleasant to wash with. Could easily make the seeds out of some melt & pour, and add them in when making the soap.
