Summer is my favorite time of year because we go on all sort of adventures both large and small. This year one of our big family adventures is to the beach. Such a fun opportunity to make some vacation DIY summer shirts. It honestly was hard to pick what to put on the shirts. I first scoured the beach boys lyrics and had so many fun ideas. My son decided he wanted a beach boy one.
I used heat transfer vinyl to make a beach boy shirt, sunshine state of mind and a mermaid in training for my little girl. You can get the free cut file below. I decided it would be fun to have a teal color shirt, so I dyed the shirts first which was super easy. Other fun ideas I thought would be great on a summer shirt were: Summer vibes or beach vibes, beach babe (for a baby), Fun Fun Fun (from Beach boys and for a girls shirt), or salty air beach hair. So many ideas out there.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY summer shirts:
- Blank Shirts
- Fabric Dye (optional)
- Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Electronic Cutting Machine

If you are going to dye your shirt, do that first. Follow the instructions on the package. I did it in my washing machine and it was very easy to do with practically no mess.
Get ready to cut your files. *Tip in designing your own: keep it simple and use chunky font. I feel like that type of font is perfect for summer. Make sure they are flipped mirror image then cut out your files on heat transfer. Place on your shirt. Then iron on wool setting and let cool.
You’re now ready to wear your DIY summer shirts on your exciting or relaxing summer adventures. There are so many fun options out there.
