As I was thinking about Mother’s Day, I couldn’t help but wish that I could bottle each one of my children up in some way at the current age they are each at. Every year I feel sentimental abpit them getting older. Since I can’t bottle them up, I thought I could at least create something that would be a reminder of who they are at this stage. Since my children are really into drawing, I thought a fun way to save those drawings would be to turn them into shrink charm keychains. It’s such a fun and easy activity for all ages to do. Plus, the ideas are endless!
Supplies needed to make your own shrink charm keychains:
- Shrink Plastic (I used clear for this project)
- Gold Key Ring Lobsters Clip
- Aluminum Jump Rings
- Colored Pencils
Start with sanding your shrink plastic. You can also do this after you draw the image on there, the sanding is just supposed to help the color pencil adhere better.
Next place your plastic shrink onto your child’s drawing. *The drawing will shrink considerably. The instructions will give you an idea how much it might shrink.
Trace the drawing onto the shrink plastic using a permanent marker.
Then using colored pencil or water colors, have your child color in the drawing. Then cut out your drawing. Be careful as you cut since the plastic at this stage can tear. After you cut, make sure you hole punch at the top of your drawing. Finally follow the shrink plastic instructions on shrinking it in the oven. After it has cooled, attach the jump rings and lobster key chain.
