Have your kids headed back to school yet? We still have another week of summer vacation and we’ve finally started our back-to-school shopping. We put it off as long as we could and now it’s officially time to start getting ready. Today I have a fun teacher gift idea that’s perfect for the beginning of the school year and all year long. As a former teacher, I loved having plants in my classroom especially succulents because they’re so easy to maintain. They don’t require a lot of care which is great for busy teachers. So, were taking a few succulents and planting them in a super cute ruler DIY planter. This is an easy craft that every teacher will love to have on their desk.
Supplies needed to make your own ruler DIY planter:
- Rulers (I needed 6)
- Small Craft Box
- Plastic Bag
- Miter Box Saw or Small Hand Saw
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Faux Succulents or Real
- Spanish Moss
- Decorations – Jute Rope, Pencil, Cardstock (optional)
Cut rulers. A few pieces will need to be cut to the width of the box and the other pieces will need to be cut to the width of the box plus the depth of two rulers.
Glue ruler pieces to box using your handy dandy glue gun.
Line the inside of the box with a plastic bag to keep water from leaking. Add moss to bottom of box. Then, plant succulents and top with additional moss.
This step is optional but I love what it adds to the succulent planter. Tie a bow around the box using the jute rope and add a pencil with a paper flag that says “You Rule!”
Now you have the cutest little succulent ruler planter and a great way to let your child’s teacher know you appreciate their hard work.
I will also add that this is a fun craft to make yourself if you’re a teacher want to add a little something special to your desk. Treat yourself to your own DIY ruler planter.
