With all the hustle and bustle the holiday season brings, I decided that the best gift for my gal pals this year would be a little tiding of comfort that is sure to bring a lot of joy! This vanilla peppermint sugar scrub not only smells delightful (think Starbuck’s Peppermint Vanilla Latte), but it is sure to soothe tired, winter-weary skin. It would be a perfect treat when gifted on its own, but you could also add it to a fun gift basket full of other pampering treats like cozy socks, a bottle of wine and chocolate. I don’t know why, but those things all seem to just do together, don’t you think?
- Granulated Sugar
- Coconut Oil
- Peppermint Essential Oil
- Vanilla Fragrance Oil
- Clear 4.25″ Storage Container
- Vinyl Roll (optional)
- Vinyl Transfer Tape (optional)
- Electronic Die Cutting Machine (optional)
- Sugar Scrub Free Cut File (optional)
Begin by measuring out ½ cup of coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on low in 15 second intervals, stirring in between. Once the oil has fully melted, mix in 1 cup of sugar.
Next stir in about ¼ tsp. peppermint essential oil (give or take), and 5 – 7 drops of the vanilla fragrance oil. You can adjust the amount of each to your liking. I find the smell of peppermint to be refreshing in the shower, so I added the full ¼ tsp. to mine.
To give the scrub a more festive look, add in 2 drops of red food coloring and mix well to evenly distribute the color.
Once you’ve thoroughly mixed the ingredients, scoop into a clear container, like these Darice clear storage containers. These containers hold slightly more than the recipe, so you might want to double it from the start, and as a bonus you’ll have a bit leftover for yourself! You could also leave some plain white, and layer the pink and white colors like a candy cane for an added dose of Christmas cheer.
Since everything looks cuter with a label on it (in my opinion at least), I added a straight to the point “Scrub” label cut in a pretty hot pink color. Full disclosure – this was my first time cutting vinyl with my Cricut, and only the third time that I’ve ever used the machine before. Now that I know how easy peasy it was to do, nothing in the house is safe from fun labels!
You can tie a ribbon to the top, or add a cute scoop if you’d like. Either way once you’ve gifted them, your gal pals will thank their lucky stars they have you as their friend! And thanks to the soothing nature of the vanilla peppermint sugar scrub, their glowing skin will thank you too!
