I love adding color to my porch in the summer. Decorative pillows are a simple way to change out your seasonal decor. DIY’ing your own pillows makes it easy and inexpensive. Follow along to see how I made this darling fabric pennant project.
- Fat Quarters (in your choice of colors and patterns, I chose all polka dots!)
- 16 x 16 Pillowform
- 16 x 16 White Pillow Cover
- White Rope
- Sewing Machine
- 9-inch Fabric Shears
- Office Pastel Chalk Pencils
Using a chalk pencil, trace the pennant shape onto the back of your fabric fat quarters. If you alternate the template right side up, and upside down, you will be able to fit more on each fat quarter.
I pinned two pieces of fabric together, and cut two at a time. Using fabric scissors, cut out your pennant shapes.
Tie a knot at the end of the banner, and at the end of the excess rope to keep it from fraying.
“I made it.” (Impressed gasps.)
It would be easy to use this same design for other holidays as well. Blacks and oranges for Halloween, or reds and greens for Christmas.

Shaunte is a 30-something, chocolate-loving, SAHM from Utah. She has been scrapbooking since 1997, the dreaded era of photos cropped with deco scissors. Since then, her work has evolved into a clean, linear, photo-focused style. Her favorite subjects to scrap are her husband and five kids (never a lack for subject material there).
