I’m loving everything nautical in my home decor and I wanted to create some custom decor accents using etching cream. Have you ever been interested in learning how to custom etch? Etching is quite simple and with the right tools you can create fun custom glass creations like these nautical etched votives. Today I’m going to walk you through the process so you can make your own fun glass creations with this glass etching tutorial.
Glass Etching Tutorial Supplies:
- Armor Etch Etching Cream
- Stencil (you can also create your own stencil using Silhouette Cameo and vinyl)
- Transfer Tape
- 6 Pack Votives
- Brushes
- Paper Towels
- Silhouette Hook
Step 1. You’ll want to clean the outside of your votive to make sure the surface is clean and the stencil will adhere securely.
Step 2. To get started you’ll need an adhesive stencil to apply to the votive. You can easily create your own using a craft cutting machine and adhesive vinyl. I created this anchor stencil using my Silhouette Cameo and white adhesive vinyl.
After using my machine to cut it, I used transfer tape to apply the stencil to the front of the votive.
Remove transfer tape and securely press down the vinyl to make sure the etch cream won’t seep under your stencil.
Step 3. Apply etching cream using a brush and let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
Step 4. Use paper towels to wipe off excess etch cream. Then gently rinse off the rest and dry completely.
Remove the adhesive vinyl.
Now you’ll have lovely custom etched votives.
Just think of the possibilities! Not only are these great around the home, but they would be ideal for party or wedding decor. Plus, you can create beautiful custom glass gifts for any occasion using this glass etching tutorial.
