I have noticed pops of gold being used in home decor. I have recently seen some beautiful, classic (expensive!) gold-toned Valentine’s day items. So, I did what any Pinterest-loving-DIYer would do- I created my own canvas DIY!
Using bulk value packs of 12×12 canvases, this entire project of four- cost less than one of the canvas pieces I saw in the store.
Supplies needed to make your own canvas DIY set:
- 12×12 Bulk Stretched Canvas Value Pack
- Corrugated Love Pop-Art
- Corrugated Heart Cutouts (2)
- Large Heart Plaque
- 8inch Paper Mache Letter (choose your monogram letter)
- 3.25 inch Wood Clothes Pins
- 12 inch White Paper Doilies
- Gold Eye Hooks
- White Satin Cord
- Hot Temp Glue Gun
- Gold Spray Paint
Unwrap your canvases. We will be using four.
Using gold spray paint, paint four (4) of the corrugated hearts, the large wooden heart, the corrugated “Love” word art, your paper mache monogram letter, and three (3) wooden clothes pins. Set aside to dry.
A tip for painting the clothes pins: clip them onto a scrap piece of cardboard. This makes it easier to pick them up, and coat all sides of the pins.
When the paint is completely dry, you can begin creating the canvases! For the first canvas, cut two (2) pieces of white rattail cord that are slightly longer than the length of the canvas.
Lay out your painted hearts and clothes pins where you like them on the canvas.
Attach screw eyes to the wooden frame of the canvas to string the cords.
String your cord across the canvas, pull it tight, and knot the ends.
Attach the hearts with the clothes pins. This completes canvas DIY number one!
For the next three canvases, heat up your glue gun!
Canvas number two: adhere the painted large heart to the center of the canvas with hot glue.
That’s it for canvas DIY number two. Classic and simple.
Any of these canvases would be cute on their own, don’t you think?
Moving on to canvas number three. I added white 12″ doilies to the next two canvases. Doilies add such fun, white-on-white texture to this project, and really remind me of Valentine’s Day.
Adhere a doily to the middle of the next two canvases using hot glue.
Glue the “LOVE” word art to the center of the doily using hot glue.
Hot glue the remaining painted heart to the center of the heart on the “LOVE” word art.
That wraps up canvas number three!
For the final canvas adhere your paper mache monogram letter to the center of the doily.
(Really, the most difficult thing about this whole project is waiting for the gold paint to dry.)
These canvases can be used individually, or grouped together as a set.
Either way, this canvas DIY project is a quick and easy pop of gold in your home decor. Perfect for Valentine’s, or any other day.
