Welcome guests into your home this fall with a DIY “Gather Here” wreath sign. This fun project gives any wreath a festive, fall touch but I decided to go with a colorful magnolia wreath that caught my eye. This step-by-step tutorial, and free SVG cut file, will guide you through the entire project from start to finish.
As soon as I saw this magnolia wreath I knew I had to have it. It’s the perfect fall wreath but I had to add a little craft project to make it even better. So I added the easiest little wood sign to the center and I’m excited to show you how you can make one too. Not only is it easy to make, but since we’re using heat transfer vinyl there’s no painting required. I’ve also created a free SVG cut file so you can quickly make the sign too.
Supplies needed to make your own wreath sign:
- Unfinished Wood Plank
- Hand Saw & Sand Paper
- Wood Stain
- Electronic Cutting Machine (Cricut or Silhouette)
- White Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Cutting Mat
- Weeding Hook
- Cricut EasyPress (or iron)
- Hot Glue Gun
- SVG Cut File
- Magnolia Wreath
Cut your wood plank so it’ll fit across the wreath. I cut mine down to 11 inches. After your plank is cut, lightly sand the edges with sand paper.
Next, it’s time to stain the wood. I love spray stain because I don’t need a brush and I don’t get stain on my hands. If the stained look isn’t for you, you can also paint the wood to create a sign that has a pop of color.
Now it’s time to make our vinyl decal. I decided to use heat transfer vinyl because there’s no painting required. This makes the sign so much easier to make – woohoo!Upload the FREE SVG Cut File and let your electronic cutting machine work it’s magic. Make sure to mirror your image before cutting.
After the design is cut, use your weeding hook to remove the excess vinyl from around the design.
This next step might be my favorite because we get to use our fabulous HeatPress to transfer the HTV vinyl to our wood plank. Set the temperature on the HeatPress to 300 degrees and the timer to 40 seconds. Now all you have to do is just heat and press. If you don’t have a Cricut HeatPress yet, it’s okay – just use your iron instead.
Finally, use your hot glue gun to attach the sign to the wreath. Gosh, what would we do without our hot glue guns?!
And, that’s it! Your gorgeous wreath with a DIY Gather Here sign is all done.
