“Bring On The Sunshine” Summer Embroidery Hoop Art

Craft Basics· Fabric Crafts· Wall Art

Has it been toasty in your part of the country? It has been sooo hot here this week! I think Summer is on it’s way. So around here that means it’s time to change out the Spring décor for a little Summer fun! This sweet “Bring on the Sunshine” Summer embroidery hoop art is so easy to make and a perfect way to add a little Summer style to your home!

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-2The embroidery is a simple back-stitch and the flowers are cute little pre-made linen flowers painted with some fun pearl watercolors. So easy!

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-1Isn’t it sweet?

Supplies needed to make your own summer embroidery hoop art:supply-list

  • 5.5 x 9 inch Oval Wood Embroidery Hoop
  • Wired Linen Flowers
  • Pearlescent Watercolor Paint Set
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Disappearing Ink Pen
  • Fabric (for background and wrapping hoop)
  • Paint Brush
  • Hot Glue

Begin by separating the linen flowers.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-6Add some water to the watercolors and lightly brush the linen flowers with the paint.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-37You don’t want to get the linen super wet, it will lose its shape. Keep painting on light coats until your flowers are the colors you’d like.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-30Continue painting flowers until you have as many as you’d like for your embroidery hoop. I love the pearl sheen the paint gives the flowers.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-32Place your background fabric in the embroidery hoop. Use a disappearing ink marker and write out your phrase. I wanted mine to have a handwritten look, but you could also choose a font you like and print out the phrase and trace it onto your fabric.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-33Outline all your letters with a backstitch. If you need a tutorial for that, there is one on my blog on the Embroidery Tips page!

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-35Take your fabric back out of your embroidery hoop. Using the lines in your fabric from the hoop, lay out the flowers they way you’d like them. Glue the flowers in place with hot glue.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-36Cut strips of a colorful fabric and wrap your outer hoop with the fabric. Glue the ends down.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-39Place the fabric in the embroidery hoop, making sure the fabric is tight and the stems of the flowers are straight. Trim the fabric all the way around and glue the fabric to the inside of the hoop. Trim the stems of the flowers (using utility scissors or wire cutters) and fold the stems to the inside.

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-31And that’s all there is to it!

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-3I love the way the little rainbow of flowers look. But it would be super cute with them painted just a couple colors – ooh or even in an ombre pattern!

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed-37I hope you give this summer embroidery hoop art a try!

Bev began sewing as a teenager and made her own clothes and room décor even then. That love for DIY, crafting, and sewing has grown to include jewelry making, furniture refinishing and anything else she can learn. Her style could probably be described best as a mix between modern and vintage – she loves taking old styles and making them new and fun again. Bev is currently living in gorgeous Carlsbad, CA with her husband, two teenagers, and two cats, which are often more trouble than the two teenagers.

Thank you so much for this lovely idea. I have a crafting group at a nursing home each week and am trying to make do with supplies we have (and we have a huge bunch of embroidery hoops), and this wrapped frame and simple flowers are adorable. The residents will get such a kick out of it!

I’ve been wanting to make some embroidery hoop art and believe this will get me started finally. I love this, so summery and pretty colors. You did a wonderful job on all of it. Where can I get the pearl water color paints?
Luckily I have lots of embroidery hoops and think I’ll use some linen I have. Will make flowers out of canvas. I’m ready to go. So glad you shared this wonderful project. Happy days, Pinning
