Easy Fat Quarter DIY Baby Bibs

Craft Basics· Fabric Crafts

Do you have a friend who’s expecting or are you expecting yourself? Or perhaps you’re attending a baby shower and you just don’t know what to make? I am expecting my first baby and I’m just obsessed with anything cat-print. And while I have one baby bib with cats, I’m pretty sure I will need more and as such I just had to make these baby bibs with my favorite prints. These fun baby bibs DIY can be easily made with your favorite fabric prints – follow with the step by step tutorial and free template below.

Supplies needed to make your own baby bibs DIY:

  • Fabric Quarters (I used fabric from Riley Blake Designs Meow Fat Quarter Set)
  • Terry Cloth
  • Free Bib Template Pattern
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pins
  • Sewing Machine
  • Iron
Step 1. First, let’s trace the template pattern onto your fabric quarter. Cut one front piece per pattern you would like to use.

Step 2. Cut the same template on terry cloth – I used simple white washcloths, but you can use fancy fabric like minky as well.

Step 3. Line up the cut terry cloth and cut front piece right sides facing together, and sew around using your sewing machine. Leave a gap at the bottom so you can turn it inside out.
Step 4. Cut some slits on the inside curve to keep your fabric from pulling when you turn it inside out.
Step 4. Turn your bib inside out, pushing the corners with a blunt object. Iron it down to remove the wrinkles.
Step 5. After turning it inside out, stitch around the bib to give it a finished look.
Step 6. Now, let’s create some ‘bias tape’ to use for securing the bibs. Cut a long piece of two inch wide fabric. Now, fold it lengthwise and cut in half. Fold the fabric in the middle, and fold each side inwards, creating a 1/2″ width of fabric.
Step 7. Next, Iron the fabric and sew the edges.
Step 8. Finally, attach the sewn fabric strips on each side of the bib – for mine, I folded one side down, sandwiching the edge of the sewn fabric strip onto the edge of the bib and stitched it down.
