Some days I like to work on long, intricate craft projects that require my full attention and other days, not so much. Coloring the doilies used for this mandala doily tote bag is almost meditative in the same way that coloring pages feel therapeutic. There’s absolutely no way you could mess up this creative project so feel free to let your mind wander and enjoy the peaceful moments. You’ll be amazed how much fun you’re having!
Step 1. This project really couldn’t be easier! Just grab a doily and begin to color the knit patterns with alternating colors. The only hint you might want to consider is to try and keep with 5 or 6 different colors but then again, having a ton of different colors would be wonderfully BoHo. I was serious above when I said you couldn’t mess this up! Just go with the flow and have fun.
Step 2. Once you’ve colored in all the doilies you plan on using, lay them out on your tote until you find a layout pattern you’re happy with. I liked how it looked with some of the doilies folding around to the back side but there are tons of different options. You could center them in the shape of a flower or line the top border of your bag with colorful doilies. The choice is yours!
Step 3. Once you’re happy with the look, apply Fabric Fusion to the back of the doilies and press in place.
Step 4. Continue until all the doilies are in place and allow to dry completely according to the manufacturers directions found on the back of the Fabric Fusion bottle.
I love how this simple mandala doily tote bag tutorial combines both meditative art and fashion! There are so many wonderful ways you can customize this project to make it 100% your own.
