Hi, it’s Rena from TheCheeseThief.com and today I will show you how to make your own DIY squishy. Squishies are all the rage now. Every time we go to the store my daughters always want to purchase a new squishy for their collection. So, I came up with a family friendly craft idea of making your own squishies using a makeup sponge and basic craft materials. My daughters are loving these squishy key chains and I even made a few for their friends.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY squishy cake:
- Round Makeup Sponges
- 3D Puffy Paint (I used white for the cake frosting)
- Micro Beads
- Hot Glue Gun
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Eye Pins
- Key Rings
Cut the round makeup sponges into three triangle shapes to look like cake slices. You can make two three-tiered cake slices if you cut into thirds.
Paint the side of the triangles with your choice of acrylic paint. No need to worry about top and bottom because those will be covered in puffy paint.
After the paint is dry, hot glue each layer of the cake together. Add an eye pin in between the top two layers of cake.
“Frost” the cake with puffy paint and let dry. I strung the eye pin onto a paper clip and hung it on a binder clip to dry.
Add additional cake-like embellishments with your puffy paint and sprinkle microbeads on top. Once dry, add a key chain to finish.
Your adorable DIY squishy cake is now done!

The design possibilities are endless! What kind of DIY squishy will you make?
