Hi, it’s Rena from TheCheeseThief.com. School is right around the corner. I don’t know about you, but my daughter is always drawn to the mermaid and unicorn school supplies at the store. This year I decided to create a craft that would give her a custom and unique notebook. We started with a basic slime recipe but made the slime more liquid than normal so we could create the liquid waterfall look for this fun DIY mermaid notebook.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY mermaid notebook:
- Clear Glue
- Iridescent Confetti
- Baking Soda
- Contact Lens Solution
- Water
- Gold Vinyl
- Craft Knife or Cutting Machine
- Reclosable Bag
- Plain Journal Notebook
- Mermaid Silhouette Printed Out (Google search mermaid silhouette)
To make slime, combine one 5oz bottle of glue with 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Mix well and add 15 to 20 drops of lens solution. You want the slime more liquid than normal slime so that it will flow inside the notebook. To do this you add less lens solution, not more. If slime is too thick add water a tablespoon at a time.
Add glitter and confetti to slime and place three tablespoons of slime into recloseable bag.
Now it is time to make the mermaid notebook silhouette.
Google search mermaid silhouette to find image. Print out to fit the size of your notebook. Tape printout on top of gold vinyl and cut out with craft knife. If you have a die cutting machine you can use that also.
Sticky side up, remove the backing of the vinyl and stick the slime bag onto the mermaid cutout.
Stick notebook on top of slime bag and wrap the notebook.
Wrap entire notebook and enjoy your mermaid liquid glitter waterfall notebook.
I also created a quick video of my DIY mermaid waterfall notebook. Enjoy!
